Comprehensive school health education now reaches over 900,000 students and families in Michigan with fundamental health knowledge and skills designed to support learning and promote lifelong wellness. The state's most widely implemented curriculum is the Michigan Model for Comprehensive School Health Education (MMCSHE).
In 1996 the independent agency, Drug Strategies, Inc., based in Washington D.C., convened a panel of experts from the fields of prevention, education and public health to review 47 widely available drug prevention programs. The results of the review were published in the Making the Grade report. MMCSHE was one of only six programs to earn an "A" rating, receiving the overall highest score of any national program reviewed.
